URGENT: RINK CREW NEEDED

Hawkwood members, we are in a bind. Our long serving rink crew has dwindled to a very small group of volunteers, and some need to step down this year. This means our rink is in danger of having no one to create or maintain the ice this winter. The current skeleton crew cannot do this job alone, and it means we need A LOT of reliable and invested community members to step up.

Have you benefitted from having the rink throughout the winter? Maybe you've played some family hockey, attended the Skate with Santa, used the rink for a team practice, or sent your kids over to skate off some steam. Whatever your connection to the rink, it's time to give back. 

This is an easy and rewarding volunteer position. The seasoned volunteers have a list of shifts, and you can sign up for ones that suit your schedule. All training is provided, so you know what you're doing without having to guess. Shifts are later evening, which means they fit into busy parent or work schedules easily. You get to use the new, fun equipment. And! You get to see the community using the fruits of your labour every day, and know you're making it easier to stay active over the winter. 

If we do not find more volunteers, the rink will not be operational this winter. 

Looking for: 
Ages 16+
Capable of operating snow blowers and hoses, shoveling snow.
Intermittent availability in later evenings (8:30-10:30 pm) when weather is cold enough to flood the rink
