A Chief Scout Award Project Presented by Me, Tristan!

Hello! My name is Tristan, and I am a 15-year-old, fourth-year scout in the Hawkwood Citadel scouting group. I’ve been on skates since I was three and have played competitive hockey for the past eight years, so I know how important good fundamentals are! Being a fourth-year scout means I can work towards the Chief Scout Award, part of which is this meaningful community project.

For my project, I am running an introductory hockey camp for youth right here at the Hawkwood Community Rink in January! I am excited to share my passion for the game with you, and the best part is there is absolutely no cost to participate. Please know that while I am leading the drills, there will be qualified adult supervision present at all times to ensure everyone's safety and well-being.

What is the Camp About?

This is a three-day camp focused on developing fundamental hockey skills. We’ll be meeting on Saturday mornings for three weekends in January.

● Dates: January 17th, January 24th, and January 31st
● Time: The session will run for one hour, starting at 9:00 AM and ending at 10:00 AM.
● Location: Hawkwood Community Rink

note: If the rink is not usable or weather prevents lessons on the above dates, we may reschedule, but rescheduling cannot be guaranteed*

Core Skills We Will Master

Over the three days, we will incorporate elements from all the fundamental skills needed to improve your game. My goal is to work on the three pillars of hockey success:

● Skating. Working on balance, edges, and movement—the foundation of all great hockey players.
● Passing. Learning how to give and receive the puck accurately is vital for teamwork.
● Puck Control & Shooting. Practicing stickhandling and developing an effective shot.

Who Can Participate?

This camp is designed for kids 9 to 11 years of age.

● Note: Participants must have some basic knowledge of how to skate and hold a stick. The main goal is to have fun and expand your knowledge of hockey!

Gear Requirements (Please Read!)

For safety reasons, all participants must bring the following mandatory gear:

● Helmet
● Skates
● Hockey Stick

Full hockey gear is recommended but not strictly required. Depending on the weather, it might be challenging to wear a full set of pads, so please dress warmly and comfortably for the conditions!
